Theresa Matacia
PARTNER
Theresa Matacia has 30+ years experience as a global Chief Financial Officer and strategic business partner in positioning companies for growth and scale by developing and guiding strategic opportunities, building infrastructure, providing forward-thinking insights, and planning for and accessing capital. Her success has been built on her philosophy of adopting an investor’s mindset around capital discipline, to respectfully challenging the status quo and influencing decisions to improve a company’s performance. Theresa is ideally positioned to support small-to-mid cap company boards in need of a financial and growth expert.
Theresa’s financial expertise spans a broad range of companies from large public enterprises to early-to-mid stage companies. Her global industry expertise in Technology Software & Services has resulted in a solid track record of executing $3 Billion in IPO, M&A, and debt/equity capital transactions. Theresa’s cross-functional, collaborative nature drove revenue growth from $350M to $500M at ADP Claims Services Group and supported the negotiation and execution of a $28M M&A deal positioning ADESA, Inc as the #2 automotive auction service provider in Texas.
In her CFO roles, Theresa’s rigorous analytical discipline helps drive decision making around actionable, measurable, and sustainable goals. Analysis completed on multiple SAAS metrics uncovered the need for $15M in additional capital to support operations at an early-stage tech company. The impact of her work on revising the pricing strategy at a Series C insurtech company resulted in gross margin improvement of 20 points in short order. And at the Energy Foundation, Theresa developed and executed a financial strategy, capacity building and process improvement roadmap for their $30M China entity and then spun China off to independence.
As a strategic business partner to the enterprise, Theresa moved beyond the borders of finance to manage functional areas of HR, Legal, IT Services, and Investor/Board Relations. She has led enterprise digitization efforts that produced greater operating efficiencies, productivity and visibility into insightful data.
Theresa’s Board of Directors interaction is extensive and she has delivered insightful guidance, provided strategic positioning of many companies, recommended executive compensation packages to the Comp Committee and managed risk matters with the Audit Committee.
With a passion for mission-driven Board Service, Theresa leverages her unique financial and operational experience to provide guidance around outcomes. She currently serves as the Treasurer and former Audit Chair for San Francisco-based Institute on Aging. In her 18+ years of board service, Theresa has simultaneously focused on social impact and business entrepreneurship, both of which are dear to her heart. She was presented with the San Francisco Community Service Award for her outstanding leadership.
As a lover of the outdoors, Theresa has logged thousands of miles on her bike throughout leaf peeping seasons across New England and Canada. She is also an average but passionate pianist.
